Do you think it was an ‘eat once’ thing or would they have been eating it all along and required to keep eating it to live forever?

Why, according to Numbers 15:32-36, was a man put to death for gathering sticks on the Sabbath and in Mark 2:23-27 the disciples did not get the same punishment for picking some ears of corn? And again, in Mark 2:25, why were the lives of David and his men spared after eating bread meant for priests? What is it that the disciples and David did that the man in Numbers did not do?
