We might say that God lives outside time, but He works within time. It was the Lord who created and began time. In Genesis 1:5, “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were THE FIRST DAY.” While the Lord has always existed, it is here that He actually creates time. ‘The first day’ indicates a reckoning of time that had not existed before. The Lord took six days to create the world and then rested on the seventh. This is the beginning of time that has existed ever since. A period of light (day) and a period of darkness (night) constituted a complete 24-hour day.

Because we are ‘in time’ the Lord works within time for us. A few examples are:

* THE INSTITUTION OF THE PASSOVER – Exodus 12:3, “Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house.” A specific month and day was given for the observance of the Passover.

* THE DAY OF ATONEMENT – Leviticus 23:27, “Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.” Each year this day was to be observed.

* THE ISRAELITES WANDERING IN THE WILDERNESS – Numbers 14:33, “And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.”

There are many, many more examples of the Lord dealing with the world according to time. But let us consider the most important day:

* THE DAY WE SHOULD BE SAVED – 2 Corinthians 6:2, “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION.)” My dear friend, if you have not yet put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, NOW is the day that you should do that. Not tomorrow. Tomorrow may not come for you. We read in  James 4:14, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” Putting off your salvation is a dangerous and foolish thing to do. We read in Joshua 24:15, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you THIS DAY whom ye will serve…”

The day is coming and is coming soon when time will be no more. After the Lord has accomplished all His purposes, there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth. Time will not exist when the Eternal Day begins. Where will you spend eternity? That will be determined by your reaction to the offer of salvation that is extended to you in God’s Word. If you should reject that free gift of salvation, there will be a terrible, eternal judgment from the hand of God. We are warned in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, IN FLAMING FIRE TAKING VENGEANCE ON THEM THAT KNOW NOT GOD, AND THAT OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST: WHO SHALL BE PUNISHED WITH EVERLASTING DESTRUCTION from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.” “BEHOLD, NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION.” (258.6)
