It is so encouraging to hear from someone who desires to grow in the Lord and follow Him according to His will.  Let’s consider these words from Ephesians 3:14-19, “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”

We see here, the godly care that the Apostle Paul had for the saints in Ephesus.  He prayed earnestly that they would be “strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.”  As we continue reading, we see that it is through Christ indwelling the heart of the believer by faith and being “rooted and grounded in love” which comes through the sincere searching of God’s Word to guide and strengthen us that we are strengthened.  Psalm 119:105 tells us, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  To grow, we MUST feed upon God’s Word on a daily basis.  Even as we feed our bodies regularly with earthly food, we must feed the inner man regularly with spiritual food…the Word of God.

The “inner man” is the soul of man, which is responsive to the leading of the Lord.  This is where we gain strength to serve and follow the Lord.  We read in 2 Corinthians 4:16, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”  The “outward man” is the flesh…the part of us that ages, perishes, and decays.  The “inward man” is that inner man that grows and matures as we continue in our relationship with the Lord.  Even as we grow old and the body begins to perish, the inner man can continue to grow stronger and stronger as we continue in the truths the Lord has given us in His Word.

We have this high commendation of the Bereans in Acts 17:10-11, “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they RECEIVED THE WORD with all readiness of mind, and SEARCHED THE SCRIPTURES DAILY, whether those things were so.”  These people listened as the Word was ministered to them and then searched the scriptures to make sure what they heard was in accordance to God’s Word. This is how we grow…feeding upon the Word of God as the only source of absolute authority.

As we follow the Lord in obedience to His Word, He will begin to lead us into various situations that will show us the direction He wants us to go in life.  The Lord Jesus once said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19).  The Lord, as He directed His disciple to follow Him, also rewarded them by using them to lead precious souls to Him for salvation.  As we continue to follow the Lord, according to the truths given to us in His Word, He will begin to use us.  He will guide us onto a path that He wants us to be on.  That path may be very clear to us.  It may not be so clear.  The point is that we keep our eyes focused on the Lord Jesus, we keep following Him, and we will wind up where He wants us to be, doing the things He wants us to do.  (430.2)
