Indeed, Jesus Christ IS a man. But, He is SO MUCH MORE than a mere man. Let’s consider John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Now, let’s compare that to John 1:14, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” We see that the “Word was God”, that the “Word was made flesh, and that His glory was of the “only begotten of the Father.” In this, we learn that the Lord Jesus is the Word and that He was made flesh (became a man). In becoming flesh, the Lord became something He had never been before (a man), yet He did not cease being what He has always been (God). Let’s consider a few characteristics of the Lord that show that He is a man.

HE WAS BORN – Matthew 1:18, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise…”

HE GREW UP – Luke 2:40, “And the child (Jesus) grew, and waxed strong in spirit…”

HE WOULD GET TIRED – John 4:6, “Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.”

HE WOULD GET THIRSTY – John 19:28, “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.”

HE DIED – Luke 23:46, “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice…he gave up the ghost.”

Concerning Jesus Christ as He lives today, we read in 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS.” Yes, Jesus Christ is a man. Yet, He is also God. We have the testimony of God the Father in Hebrews 1:8, “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” If God the Father refers to His Son as God, then we can certainly realize beyond the shadow of a doubt that Jesus Christ IS God. Jesus Christ is not ½ man and ½ God. He is 100% man and 100% God. Fully man and fully God.

1 Timothy 3:16 tells us, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (277.4)
