Let’s begin by looking at the words of the Son of God Himself.  He tells us in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME.”  The Lord Jesus plainly declares that there is only one access to the Father, and that is through Him.  To come to the Father is to receive His gift of salvation, to have access to his throne by prayer, and to enter His presence in Glory.  No man can obtain any of these things except by the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Coming to the Father by the Lord Jesus is coming in His name and depending on his merits.

1 Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”  In this verse, we learn there is one God.  We learn the necessity of having a mediator between us and God.  We learn there is only one mediator (a go-between, and intercessor).  We learn that this mediator is ‘the man Christ Jesus.’  Simply put, there is absolutely no access to God without the Lord Jesus Christ!

Why would we want to get around the Lord Jesus as if He is not important?  He is our sin-bearer (1 Peter 2:24).  He loved us and gave Himself for us. (Galatians 2:20).  He suffered on the cross to pay our sin debt and to bring us to God.  1 Peter 3:18 tells us, “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.”  It is Christ who is able to bring us to God.  It was He who suffered and died and rose again so that we might be saved.  Why would anyone want to try to approach the Father without Him?

No matter what religion a person might be, or even having no religion at all, there is ONE wonderful access to God’s mercy, love, grace, and riches…and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ of whom it is said, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).  It is said of the Lord Jesus in Philippians 2:10-11, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The very name of Jesus should cause the true believer to bow his/her knee and freshly acknowledge that He is Lord.  We read in Ephesians 2:12, “That at that time ye were without Christ…having no hope, and without God in the world.”  Those who refuse or reject the Lord Jesus have no hope for they do not have God.

It is true that the Father and the Son are one, for the Lord Jesus said in John 10:30, “I and my Father are one.”  Indeed, they are one in nature, essence, perfection, purpose, and power.  Yet they are two distinct persons of the Godhead.  There is one God made of three distinct persons…the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father is God, but He is not the Son.  The Son is God, but He is not the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is God, but He is not the Father.  This is a mystery, but this is God.  He is beyond complete comprehension.    1 Timothy 3:16 says, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

So, we do well to hear and heed the words of the Lord Jesus when He tells us, “NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME.”  He is the way and there is no other!  I hope that you will pass these words along to your friend so that he might see that he needs the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior.  (346.2)
