To answer your excellent question, let’s read Matthew 13:10-13, “And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.”

At this point in His public ministry, the Lord had already been rejected by the Jewish people. John 1:11 tells us that “He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” The nation of Israel, as a whole, had rejected their Messiah, the very One who had come to give His life to redeem Him. They would not have Him, so the Lord began to teach in parables. He explained to His disciples that they would be allowed to understand about the “mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.” BUT, to those who had rejected Him, these things were not given. They were not able to understand these priceless mysteries.

The Lord then said in verse 12, “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.” It may seem to be odd for the Lord to give precious truths to these men who followed Him. In truth, they had put their faith and their lives into the hands of the Lord. They truly owned Him as savior and Lord. They understood who Christ was and followed Him, so it was to them that the Lord gave further truth, and the ability to understand even more of the Lord’s truths. But, to those who had rejected Him, the Lord took away what they had. Let’s compare this with a sister verse in Luke 8:18, “Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, FROM HIM SHALL BE TAKEN EVEN THAT WHICH HE SEEMETH TO HAVE.” Notice that Luke spoke of that which the unsaved man “seemeth to have.” In actuality, without Christ, we are destitute.

We read in 1 John 5:12, “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” For the one who continues to refuse the Lord Jesus as savior, the Lord may deem it necessary to “take away even that he hath.” What does this Christ rejector have? He has nothing. To the outside world he may seem to be happy and prosperous, but the One who knows the heart, declares that this Christ rejecter has nothing. Even as he lives day to day, he is empty and possesses nothing. That which “he seemeth to have,” will be taken away, further leaving him alone and destitute. Such is the fate of those who continue to reject the Lord and will not acknowledge His Godliness. Dear friend, let me caution you against such condition of the heart. To be a Christ rejecter is to court Hell and all its atrocities. It is to lose all that YOU THINK you have.

The Lord has seen fit to share with us,” the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.” May we point our hearts towards Him. May we value Him as our life giving savior. May we be known as those who are POSSESSORS of Christ and not merely PROFESSORS. (247.8)
