We can’t say that Satan was born, neither can we say that Satan was created.  Let’s begin by looking at Isaiah 14:12-15, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”  This is the ONLY time we find the word ‘Lucifer’ in the Bible.  We recognize him easily by his attitude and actions as he sought to BE LIKE GOD.  It was because of this fierce pride that Lucifer was cast out of Heaven.  Perhaps the Lord Jesus was referencing this event and warning against pride when He said, “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” (Luke 10:18).

While he is not in Hell yet, we know that will be his final destiny as we read in Revelation 20:10, “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

The word Lucifer means ‘morning star’.  After his fall, this name is never used of him again.  The word Satan means ‘adversary’ and that is apparent in the first time that name is used in 1 Chronicles 21:1, “And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.”  In all, the name Satan is used 49 times in the Bible.  So, we see that Lucifer was created by God and he became Satan because of the pride that led to his rebellion against God.  In the New Testament, Satan is also called ‘the devil’.  The first time we see that name used is in Matthew 4:1, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.”  The word devil means ‘false accuser’.  We see that illustrated in Revelation 12:10, “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for THE ACCUSER OF OUR BRETHREN is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

The final mention of the devil is in Revelation 20:10, “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”  The end of the story has already been written.  The devil (Satan) will be cast into Hell and shall be ‘tormented day and night for ever and ever’.  Let’s also read Revelation 20:11-15, “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”  What about you, dear reader?  Have you put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior?  If not, you are in real danger of being cast into the lake of fire (Hell).  We learn in John 3:36, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”  Do you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ?  Do you have eternal life?  (359.2)
