This is a very good and important question, for all believers should be involved in spreading the Gospel to all.  We read in 2 Timothy 4:5 that we are to, “…do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”  It is the privilege and responsibility of every believer to seek to wins souls for Christ.  Here are some steps to help us be prepared to share the Gospel.

FOLLOW CHRIST – The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 4:19, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  It is so vital that we have a close relationship with the Lord…seeking His will and doing His will from the heart.  When we follow the Lord, we will develop a real concern for the lost souls around us.  He wants to use us and He will use us when we follow Him.

STUDY GOD’S WORD – We must study our Bibles so that we can know the Lord’s will for us.  To be able to share the Gospel, we must be familiar enough with His Word to share the proper scriptures at the proper times when we are speaking to others.  2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  Memorizing Gospel verses is an invaluable tool.

USE GOD’S WORD – It is so important to share what the Bible says when speaking to others about their need of salvation.  Some tend to use touching stories and anecdotes, but it is the Bible itself that can bring about a repentant heart and confession to the Lord.  Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”  The gospel of Christ as given in the written Word of God is powerful.  Use it when speaking.  It is good to be able to tell others what the Bible says.  It is better to read the Bibles to others so that they might know you are sharing the exact Word of God.  It is best to let the one you are witnessing to read the Bible himself, so that he/she actually sees what the Bible says.

PRAY – Ask the Lord for opportunities to witness to the lost.  Ask Him to give you the boldness you need to speak openly about the need of salvation with others.  Ask the Lord to give you the right words to say when sharing the Gospel with others.  Ask the Lord to open the hearts of those who will hear that Gospel, that they might hear, understand, and believe.

In sharing the Gospel, we must show the unbeliever the need of salvation.  It may feel uncomfortable to tell someone they are guilty sinners deserving of Hell, but that is the truth.  Of course, we want to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).  We want to show true concern for the lost.  We can use a verse such as, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) to show our concern that we realize we are all sinners.  Romans 6:23 tells us that, “the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  From this we can express our concern that the hearer is in danger of eternal death because of their sins.  However, the Lord has a gift for us…Eternal Life.  He will give us that gift when we accept Jesus Christ as our savior.  Familiarize yourself with verses such as Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-9, Matthew 11:28, Titus 1:5, John 14:6, etc.  There are so many verses that can be used to help others see their need of salvation and the way of salvation…the Lord Jesus Christ.

I trust these few words will be helpful to you in learning how to share the Gospel with others.  The Lord says to us in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”  May the Lord be with you as you seek to obey Him in taking the Good News to a world that desperately needs to hear it.  (388.4)
