In the Bible, we read of a young king named Manasseh who “did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 33:1-2).  We read of some of his offenses in verse 6 which says, “And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used WITCHCRAFT, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: HE WROUGHT MUCH EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, to provoke him to anger.”  The Lord strictly forbids these acts of the occult.

We read in Leviticus 19:26, “Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use ENCHANTMENT, nor OBSERVE TIMES.”  To use enchantments or observe times, both refer to different methods of divination, which is forbidden by the Lord.  When we tamper in the realm of the occult, we will find Satan operating there and we can become so manipulated by him that we cease to seek the will and way of the Lord.  It is a real and harsh danger that absolutely must be avoided.

We can see the danger of having a negative influence in Acts 8:9-11, “But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used SORCERY, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.”  This man’s influence was great, but thankfully we go on to read in verse 12, “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”  The power of the Gospel of Christ led these people away from Simon and his sorcery.

Since this lady was once part of the church group you attend, I will give you my answer based on her profession of faith in Christ Jesus.  Perhaps she is saved but has wandered far from the truth.  Perhaps she was never saved but just kept up a pretense of salvation for a time.  We read the instructions of the Lord in 1 Thessalonians 5:14, “Now we exhort you, brethren, WARN THEM THAT ARE UNRULY, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”  One of the works of the believer is to warn those who have gone astray, and as it often happens, they begin to lead others astray.  In this case, the word ‘unruly’ refers to those who are insubordinate, or who refuse to obey the Lord and His teachings in the Bible.  This person certainly needs to be warned of her pagan ways and influence.

Perhaps this lady is not a believer at all.  We read in Galatians 5:19-21, “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, IDOLATRY, WITCHCRAFT, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD.”  Perhaps this lady needs to hear the Gospel of Christ so that she might be saved and leave this lifestyle behind her.

This is serious business and needs to be taken seriously.  I encourage you to pray about speaking to this lady and seek to lead her away from these abominations.  When the world tells us to mind our own business, it seems they are trying to rid themselves of God’s influence in their lives.  Remember, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).  Share the powerful Word of God with this lady and pray the Lord will use it to draw her away from these occult practices to bring her to salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  (CC)  (741.2)
