Is there going to be food in heaven?
Food is such a pleasant and necessary thing, isn’t it? From the beginning, the Lord provided food for all His creation. It was on the third day of creation that we read, “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:11-12).
When we are united in Heaven with the Lord, we know that we will BE ABLE to eat in our resurrected bodies. The Lord Jesus is our example because He ate food after He was resurrected from the dead. We read of the Lord in Luke 24:42-43, “And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them.” We have the words of the Apostle Peter in Acts 10:41, “Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.” This was not that the Lord had any NEED OF FOOD; but to give them still further evidence of His resurrection and His resurrected body.
As believers, we rejoice of that coming day when the marriage feast of the Lord will happen. Revelation 19:5-9 tells us, “And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.” What a glorious day that will be when this marriage feast takes place in Heaven. As believers living in the Church Age, we are referred to as the BRIDE OF CHRIST (read Ephesians 5:25-27). We read the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:1-2, “Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” One day, we will enjoy that wonderful feast when we are united with the Lord, as the bride and bridegroom. Isaiah 61:10 prophesied of that great day, “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.”
While we will not NEED food in Heaven, there are reasons for us to ENJOY food in Heaven. Throughout the Old Testament, we read prophecies of great feasting in Heaven. We read in Isaiah 25:6, “And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.” This mountain, which is mount Zion, that is, in Jerusalem. This undoubtedly refer to the times of the Messiah, when the Lord Jesus will establish His kingdom on the earth. There will be many reasons for feasting and rejoicing as the Lord rules over His earthly kingdom in His millennial reign.
So, yes, I believe we can see there will be food in Heaven…not as a necessity, but in feasting and celebration of our blessed savior and the wonderful blessing of being in His glorious presence. (CC) (677.2)
