What would a good and complete Gospel message include?
The word “Gospel” only appears in the New Testament and is found 98 times. The Greek word for Gospel is “euangélion”. The biblical definition of this word is “a good message, good news.” The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for IT IS THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” The Gospel of salvation is much more than just words on a page, or words spoken to someone. The Gospel is POWERFUL. The true Gospel is empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring sinners to repentance and to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The Lord Jesus, speaking of the advent of the Holy Spirit into the world said in John 16:8-10, “And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more.” The Spirit works through the Word of God, the Gospel, to save lost people.
How can we avoid using a partial Gospel and speak the whole truth of salvation? Let’s see what the Bible says. In the Bible, we read of a man, a Philippian jailor, who had a desire to be saved. We read his question, and the Apostle Paul’s answer in Acts 16:30-31, “…Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” What a simple answer to such a desperate question! Yet, these words are complete and powerful. Let’s look at this answer carefully.
BELIEVE – Put your faith in, to trust for your salvation.
ON – Not to believe simply about His existence and work, but fully rely upon His finished work on Calvary.
LORD – Supreme in authority, master
JESUS – Jehoshua, Jesus, savior
CHRIST – Anointed One, Messiah
THOU SHALT BE SAVED – Instant salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Saved from Hell and saved to dwell in Glory forever with the Lord.
A full Gospel message would include telling someone of their sinfulness and need of a savior.
- Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
- Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
As much as we need to be saved, we cannot save ourselves.
- Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
- Titus 3:5, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”
There is ONLY ONE who can give salvation.
- John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
The Lord wants everyone to be saved and will not reject anyone who comes to Him in faith.
- John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
- Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
One must believe in the sacrificial death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
These verses are examples you can use to express these points, but the Gospel message is found throughout the Bibe. I trust this will help you in giving a complete Gospel message. However, before sharing the Gospel with someone, it is so important to be in prayer, asking the Lord to bless His Word to the salvation of precious souls. (CC) (658.4)
