I was glad to read that you are “praying for him” and “trying to let him see God in me.” One thing that I would highly suggest is to show him scriptures that speak clearly about the role the husband/father has as the spiritual “HEAD of his house.” In Ephesians 5:22-23 we read, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For THE HUSBAND IS HEAD OF THE WIFE, as also Christ is head of the church.” Later, in 6:4, we read “And you, FATHERS, do not provoke your children to wrath, but BRING THEM UP IN THE TRAINING AND ADMONITION OF THE LORD.” Let’s consider some excellent examples from Scripture of men who took this to heart and filled their roles as the spiritual leader of the family.

In Genesis 7:1, 5 we read, “And the LORD said unto NOAH, Come thou and ALL THY HOUSE into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation…And NOAH did according unto all the that LORD commanded him” (KJV).  God said this of ABRAHAM: “For I know him, that HE WILL COMMAND HIS CHILDREN AND HIS HOUSEHOLD after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD” (Genesis 18:19). JOSHUA said, “And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve….as FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15). These three godly men took their place as the “HEAD of their house” and they were blessed for doing so. In the New Testament we have another prime example recorded in 1 Corinthians 1:16 & 16:15, “And I baptized also the HOUSEHOLD of STEPHANUS…I urge you, brethren—you know the HOUSEHOLD OF STEPHANUS, that is the firstfruits of Achiaa, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints.” The Lord loves to bless households when the husband and father is leading them on in the things of the Lord as the “head of the house.” You mentioned wanting to see your husband “lead the family to Christ” and in Acts 16:29-34 we have a wonderful example of a man getting saved and leading his family to Christ. I will quote the whole passage: “Then he (the Philippian jailor) called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, YOU AND YOUR HOUSEHOLD.’ Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately HE AND ALL HIS FAMILY WERE BAPTIZED. Now when he brought them into his house, he set food before them; and HE REJOICED, having believed in God WITH ALL HIS HOUSEHOLD” (NKJV).

I believe the Lord could use these scriptural examples of men taking their place as the “head of their family” to convict your husband and to give him the desire to be the spiritual leader of your family. I would encourage you bring these before him in a very loving and humble way while expressing your desire to see him fill that role as the God-appointed leader of his house. If he still does not respond, continue to pray for him and to be a godly example to him. Wives are encouraged by the words of the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 3:1-2, “Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without the word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanies by fear.” It would be wrong for you to assume the place as the spiritual leader of the house, for he is still the one who you are to be submissive to. Yet you can still be a “teacher of good things” to your children in your home while at the same time acknowledging your husband’s place as the head of the house (please read Titus 2:3-5).   (DO)  (677.5)
