When the serpent talked to Eve, scripture didn’t say she was surprised at all. So, before the fall, could they verbally talk to the animals, and they talk to them?

In Joshua 11, Joshua is in a battle with 5 kings and kills all of them. Plus, he conquered their cities. I see in the OT wars, killing and conquering. The NT is completely different with the Bible saying to be humble like Jesus, to turn the other cheek, pay evil with good, and pray for your enemies. People tell me it feels like it was a different God from the Old Testament than from the New Testament. How can I answer that properly and biblically?
