Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?
It is sad that we have seen in recent years the rise of so-called Chrislam—the blending of Christianity and Islam. How this dishonors the One who declares that HE IS THE TRUTH. (John 14:6)
We can look at the Koran to see that Christians and Muslims DO NOT worship the same God. Here is a quote from the Koran (sura 4, ayat 171): “O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, WAS BUT A MESSENGER OF ALLAH…so believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist—it is better for you. Indeed Allah is but one God. Exalted is He ABOVE HAVING A SON.”
We see then that the Koran identifies Allah as having no son and states that Jesus, the son of Mary, was merely a messenger of Allah. We know that Jesus has a Father. His name is Jehovah. We read of the Lord Jesus in Psalm 2:7, “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, THOU ART MY SON; this day have I begotten thee.” The Koran clearly denies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God! On this basis alone, we see that Jehovah and Allah are not the same! Allah cannot be the Christian’s God, because the God of the Bible definitely has a Son. The Bible is inflexible on this point. “Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father” (1 John 2:23). To call God “Allah,” then, would be to deny the Son and the Father, too. Jesus plainly says, “No man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). It is by the death of God’s Son that we are saved. There would be no salvation without Him.
In stating that Allah’s followers should not say ‘three’, it shows that the Muslim religion does not believe in the Trinity, an important part of the Christian faith. It is said that Allah has no son. It is said that Allah is one and there is no trinity. Reading in the Koran in Surah 5:73 it says, “There is no god but Allah”. This ‘god’ has no son, is not part of the Trinity, yet claims to be the only god. We read of the Christian God in Isaiah 45:6, “That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.” We who know Him, know He is the only God. We know His name as we read in Exodus 3:15, “And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.”
To those who put their faith in Him, the Lord promises a place in Heaven with Him, worshipping and learning from Him for eternity. The Lord said in Matthew 25:21, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
Allah offers rewards that appeal to man’s sexual and lustful desires. “As for the righteous, they shall surely triumph. Theirs shall be gardens and vineyards, and virgins with big breasts for companions: a truly overflowing cup.” (Surah 78:31). Allah promises rewards to fulfill the most dishonorable of desires. “Round about them will serve boys of perpetual freshness.” (Surah 56:17). The differences between the true God and Allah are too innumerable to mention. One of the biggest differences is the source of salvation. The Christian knows that salvation comes through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. The Quran teaches that salvation is based on purification by good deeds (Quran 7:6–9). That, in itself, is enough to show us that the Lord and Allah ARE NOT the same. Allah is a false god whose followers will perish for eternity. The Bible teaches us in Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” There is only ONE GOD. There is only ONE SAVIOR. There is only ONE WAY of salvation. Isaiah 42:8 says, “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”
