I would like to introduce you to a man named Harry Rimmer.  “Harry Rimmer (1890–1952) was an American evangelist and creationist. He was the founder and President of the Science Research Bureau, Incorporated, a corporation set in Los Angeles, California, whose purpose he established as to prove the veracity of the Bible through studies of biology, paleontology and anthropology.” (Wikipedia).

Mr. Rimmer wrote several books on science and the Bible.  I recommend them to anyone who is interested in his very interesting and scriptural writings, especially his book, Harmony of Science and Scripture.  He made two statements in his books that really stood out to me.  He said that:

• “In all of our scientific progress we have not yet discovered one single fact that contradicts or refutes any statement in the Bible.”
• “True science will never contradict the Bible.”

Of course, because of his faith, Mr. Rimmer received great criticism for his work, but his faithfulness to the Lord and his belief in true science caused him to be well respected by many.

While science does constantly contradict the scriptures, ‘true science’ does not.  True science is that which is grounded in truth and has passed the test of time.  As you may well know, ‘science’ is constantly changing.  God never changes as He says in Malachi 3:6, “For I am the LORD, I change not…”  Neither does God’s Word change as we learn in Psalm 119:160, “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.”

I will give a couple of examples of the Bible giving a scientific statement that was considered (by ‘so-called’ scientists) as wrong and absurd for many years…even centuries.

• The book of Job is the oldest book in the Bible, yet we read in Job 26:7, “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.”  This statement was way before its time!  For so many years, it was thought that the earth was sitting on the back of an elephant or the Greek god, Atlas.  Of course, the Lord always knew the truth because He created the universe.

• Proverbs 4:23 says, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.”  (NASB).  It wasn’t until 1628 that William Harvey successfully proved his theory that the heart is a pump, circulating blood throughout the body.  Solomon, in his God-given wisdom spoke of that many centuries before science accepted it as a truth. 

The Bible is not a science book, but it is scientifically correct in all its teachings.  Science, on the other hand, is always changing as new information becomes available.  Many scientists plainly reject the idea of the existence of God and the infallibility of His Word. 

While we are truly thankful for the knowledge the Lord has allowed men to learn, we must be very careful about where we place our confidence.  We read this warning of the Apostle Paul to Timothy (and to us) in 1 Timothy 6:20, “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called.”  (487.4)  (CC)
