This is a very good and unique question.  We might ask, what has God done to earn my trust?  Who is God that I can trust Him?  Let’s consider a few characteristics of the Lord to see if we can indeed trust Him.

  • The Lord is holy and righteous. Leviticus 20:26 says, “…I the LORD am holy…” Daniel 9:14 says, “…the LORD our God is righteous in all his works…” Therefore, everything the Lord does is the right thing to do. He never makes mistakes and He never does anything wrong. In fact, we read in Genesis 18:25, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
  • The Lord will NEVER lie to us, in fact, He CANNOT lie to us. Titus 1:2 speaks of, “…God, that cannot lie…” Whatever the Lord says is true. He will never try to deceive us. Not only does the Lord always tell the truth, He IS the truth. We read in John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
  • The Lord is omnipotent, which means that He is all powerful. There is nothing too hard for the Lord to do. We have the question asked in Genesis 18:14, “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” The Lord Himself said in Jeremiah 32:27, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”
  • The Lord ALWAYS does what He promises to do. In Romans 4:21 we learn that Abraham was, “…fully persuaded that, what he (the Lord) had promised, he was able also to perform.”
  • The Lord sees everything. So nothing takes Him by surprise, so there will never be any ‘unexpected events’ that would prevent the Lord from doing what He says He will do. Job 34:21 says of the Lord, “For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.”
  • The Lord loves us so much, He sent His son, Jesus to die for our sins. We all know that familiar verse. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
  • The Lord only wants good for us. In Jeremiah 29:11-12 He tells us, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.” (NKJV)
  • The Lord has a boundless supply to meet and exceed all we could ever possibly need. Philippians 4:19 says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
  • The Lord will never abandon us. The Lord promises us in Hebrews 13:5, “…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
  • No matter what, the Lord will NEVER stop loving us. Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So, can you trust God for everything? In light of all that we have just had before us, how can you not trust Him? How can you consider these few attributes of the Lord and not put your life and your eternity in His capable and loving hands? May we all be able to say as David said in Psalm 91:2, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” (175.8)
