Genesis 15:18-21 says, “In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

Joshua 1:3-4 says, “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.”

According to these verses, the land God gave to Israel included everything from the Nile River in Egypt to Lebanon (south to north) and everything from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (west to east). Translated today, the Lord gave Abraham and his descendants all of the land modern Israel currently possesses, plus all of the land of the Palestinians (the West Bank and Gaza), all the land of Jordan, some of Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.  You can use Google and find a map showing all the land that properly belongs to Israel…the Promised Land.

This promise from the Lord is irrevocable, even though Israel has not yet occupied all the land the Lord has given to them.  Israel currently possesses only a fraction of the land God has promised them.  The rest of their inheritance awaits the return of the Lord Jesus Christ when He returns to establish His kingdom on the earth. God has given His word that the nation of Israel will never cease as long as the sun still shines by day and the moon and stars still shine by night (read Jeremiah 31:35–37).

Israel’s history of rebellion, idolatry, unfaithfulness, and rejection of Jesus Christ as their true Messiah has kept them from fully realizing the Abrahamic Covenant and fully possessing the promised land.  Yet, the day will come when the Lord shall restore Israel to occupy all the land the Lord promised them.  Amos 9:13-15 tells us, “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.”  (CC)  (567.6)
