We read in Exodus 12:40-41, “Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt” (NASB). Therefore, the answer to your question is that the Israelites were in Egypt for 430 years.

The Lord worked mightily to bring Israel out of Egypt, in spite of the power of Pharaoh and his army. After miraculously being delivered through the Red Sea that the Lord had parted, Moses and the children of Israel gave all the credit to the Lord for their deliverance. We read in Exodus 15: 1-13, “Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and said, ‘I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. The LORD is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will extol Him. The LORD is a warrior; The LORD is His name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; And the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea. The deeps cover them; They went down into the depths like a stone. Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy. And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff. At the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up, The flowing waters stood up like a heap; The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be gratified against them; I will draw out my sword, my hand will destroy them. You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters. Who is like You among the gods, O LORD? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders? You stretched out Your right hand, The earth swallowed them. In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; In Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation’” (NASB).

Just as the Lord helped the children of Israel, so He helps us. The Lord says to us in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” We can trust Him each and every day. He will lead all believers safely home to glory.

If you have never humbled yourself before God, agreed with God that you are a sinner, and placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as you Savior, then please do so today. The Lord strongly desires to welcome you into His family. He will then help you each day and lead you safely home to glory as well.  (468.2)  (DJ)
