It seems obvious to me that whatever the “ancestral African beliefs” are, you do not agree with them and thus they contradict the teachings of the Word of God. Because you don’t believe in them, why would you want to SUPPORT THEM? This is, itself, a “contradiction,” for you would be sending a “mixed message” to those Africans who do believe in their ancestral beliefs. Your presence there, along with some sort of participation, would in effect be CONDONING their beliefs. We are told to in 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22, “Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” Even if you didn’t PARTICIPATE, your PRESENCE there (in support of their beliefs) would be disobeying these words, for you have obviously “tested their beliefs and concluded they are NOT GOOD,” so you should reject them and avoid contact with them.

Any “belief system” that contradicts the teachings of the Word of God, are “false teachings” which the Bible calls “the spirit of error.” Here are the inspired words of the Apostle John in 1 John 4:1-6:

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but TEST THE SPIRITS, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Bu this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater that he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the SPIRIT OF TRUTH and the SPIRIT OF ERROR.”

Now let’s read the words of the Apostle Paul to Timothy which teach us also what to do: “Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me….And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also….But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing they gender strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility CORRECTING THOSE WHO ARE IN OPPOSITION, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, SO THAT THEY MAY KNOW THE TRUTH, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will” (2 Timothy 1:13; 2:2, 23-26).  (DO)  (702.5)
