First of all, I am so sorry that your spouse, whom you still love, has divorced you. I can only imagine the pain and disappointment you have experienced because of this. The Lord, also, was hurt with this. Malachi 2:16 tells us that God “hates divorce.” (NKJV) We have the words of the Lord Jesus in Matthew 19:4-6, “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

When two people are joined in marriage, they become ‘one flesh’, or one person, in the eyes of the Lord. It is unnatural to divide them into two people again. The Lord has much to say to those who are hurting, whether it’s from divorce or some other calamity in their lives. Let’s consider just a few:

Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” The Lord Jesus, our High Priest, empathizes with us in our afflictions, and He is the one we can look to for aid and support in trials. Hebrews 4:16 goes on to instruct us, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

We have a precious promise of the Lord in Hebrews 13:5, “…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Whatever it is you may have to go through, as a believer on the Lord Jesus, He is always right there with you. He will not leave you in times of difficulty. He is there with you and will comfort your heart. 2 Corinthians 1:3 tells us the Lord is, “…the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.”

Psalm 147:3 tells us the Lord, “…heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” There are so many broken hearts and wounded souls in this world. The Lord knows each one, and desires to heal each one…and He will when we give Him our sorrows and allow Him to work in our hearts to bring healing. 1 Peter 5:7 invites us. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” The Lord loves you deeply and He invites you to give Him all your cares. He will heal your broken heart by assuring you with His own immeasurable love for you.

In Isaiah 41:10, the Lord tells us, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” What a precious promise! The Lord will give you the strength you need to overcome this tragedy in your life.

I trust you can find some comfort in these verses. The Bible is full of comforting verses and assurance of the Lord’s love for us. Look to Him. Ask the Lord to strengthen you. Follow Him. Matthew 6:8 tells us that, “…your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” The Lord knows what you are going through and He knows what you need. Commit your life to Him and allow Him to heal your wounds. (172.8)
