In Isaiah 55:6 we read, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. This is not the same as seeking the Holy Spirit. We are called upon to seek the Lord for salvation. For those who are lost, we also find that the Lord is looking for you! The Lord Jesus said in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” As has been said before, “A seeking sinner and a seeking savior will soon meet.”

After we put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation, we receive the Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost, the birthday of the church, we read “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost…” (Acts 2:4) On that day, every believer was filled with the Holy Spirit. There was no looking for Him or praying for Him. He indwelt every believer.

Let’s consider 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” The word ALL refers to the believers. ALL believers in the Lord Jesus Christ have been ‘baptized into one body’ by the Spirit. ALL believers have been made to ‘drink into one Spirit.’ Again, there was no looking for Him. These happen to every believer.

Ephesians 1:13 assures us that, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, YE WERE SEALED WITH THAT HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE.” This is written to believers, letting us know that ALL believers have been sealed with the Holy Spirit. There is no looking for Him. His seal upon us is automatic to every believer at the moment of salvation.

I think one more verse will suffice to show us that we receive the Holy Spirit at the moment we receive the Lord Jesus as our savior. Romans 8:9 tells us, “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Since every believer is indwelt with the Holy Spirit, this verse tells us that if we do not have the Spirit, we do not belong to the Lord…we are lost. We do not need to seek the Holy Spirit. If you are a true believer on the Lord, the Spirit is dwelling inside you right now! (308.7)
