To answer your good question, let’s read Romans 4:19-22, “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.”

Abraham was 99 years old when the Lord told him that he would be the father of many nations.  We read in Genesis 17:1-5, “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.”  The Lord also made a promise to Sarah in Genesis 17:15-16, “And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.”

Having received these promises, Abraham was not “weak in the faith” and he “staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief.”  He was a man who was “strong in faith” and, although he and Sarah, were well past the age of being able to bear children, he was “fully persuaded” that what the Lord had promised, He would do.  Concerning Abraham’s natural ability to father children at such an old age, we read in Hebrews 11:11-12, “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him AS GOOD AS DEAD, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.”

What Abraham considered to be impossible; he believed it as he received it from the Lord.  We read earlier in Genesis that “And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” (Genesis 15:5-6).  We are reminded three times in the New Testament that “Abraham believed God.” (Romans 4:3, Galatians 3:6, and James 2:23).  In each of these instances, we are told that God declared Abraham to be righteous because of his faith in the Lord.  Today, those who believe in the Lord are the children of Abraham as we read in Galatians 3:7, “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.”  Even as Abraham, when we put our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we too, are made righteous.  2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

What about you, dear reader?  Are you trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior?  Have you been made righteous through faith in Him?  The Lord stated His unbreakable promise in John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”  We also read in John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”  Eternal life is available for all who put their faith in the Lord Jesus.  (CC)  (630.6)
