I do social media posts on reading the Bible and getting saved. Do I HAVE to go up to people in person to do this as well or not?
We will look at verses that tell you EXACTLY what a person must do to get saved and then we will look at verses which teach us that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO UP TO PEOPLE IN PERSON to be saved. Here are some key verses that teach the sinner how to be saved.
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that THE WORLD THROUGH HIM MIGHT BE SAVED. HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM IS NOT CONDEMNED” (John 3:14-18a).
These words are crystal-clear; the sinner is saved by simply “believing in Jesus Christ as their Savior.” Jesus was lifted up on the cross to take the sinner’s place in death and judgment (Romans 3:23 and Hebrews 9:27-28) and the sinner who believes He did this for them IS SAVED! Jesus Himself said in John 10:9 & 14:6, “I am the door. If anyone enters by ME, he will be SAVED…I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except THROUGH ME.” The Apostle Peter declared, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which WE MUST BE SAVED” (Acts 4:12). A man once asked the Apostle Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” and he said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:30-31). The sinner can’t be saved by his own works (see Ephesians 2:8-9) or any religious ritual like baptism (see 1 Corinthians 1:17-18). He/she must put their complete trust (i.e. faith) in Jesus Christ who died on the cross to save them.
Now let’s see, from Scripture, if one must “believe in Christ” by going up to people in person. Here is a passage that will help to answer this:
“But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the WORD OF FAITH WHICH WE PREACH): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED. For WITH THE HEART ONE BELIEVES UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND WITH MOUTH CONFESSION IS MADE UNTO SALVATION” (Romans 10: 8-10).
We see here that one must surely have HEARD the way to be saved before they can believe in Christ. We see this in verse in 14, “And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they HEAR without a preacher?” One can HEAR the gospel on television, a radio, or computer, or READ it in the Bible, a gospel tract, or on a computer, and then BELIEVE IN CHRIST without being there in person. The all-important thing is THEY MUST HEAR OR READ about Christ and His finished work on the cross before they can BELIEVE. Verse 17 goes on to say, “So then FAITH COMES BY HEARING, and HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD.” It is the WORD OF GOD that is vital to HEAR OR READ! Many people are saved by reading the Bible or gospel tracts without anyone being present. God’s WORD is powerful and one need only read the gospel of Christ and then BELIEVE IT to be saved. Romans 1:16 states, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for IT IS THE POWER OF GOD TO SALVATION FOR EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES.” God sees your heart and declares you righteous the moment you believe it, and then you will gladly confess Christ as your Savior before men. You are not confessing Christ TO BE SAVED but confessing Christ because YOU ARE SAVED. (DO) (716.3)
