I am very encouraged by your desire to “truly commit yourself to God daily.” This should be the heartfelt desire of every true believer in Christ. There is a well-known hymn that believers sing that express the desire of being fully committed. Here are a few of the lines:

“Take my life, and let it be, Consecrated, Lord to Thee;

Take my hands, and let the move, At the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet, and let them be, Swift and beautiful for Thee;

Take my voice, and let me sing, Always, only for my King.”

These lines bring out that every part of member of our physical body should be consecrated (devoted) to our blessed Lord Jesus. Our HANDS should do His bidding; our FEET should take us wherever His will leads us; and our VOICE should only be used to glorify Him.

Scripture teaches us the truth of this hymn in Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you PRESENT YOUR BODIES a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service” (NKJV). After we are saved, God wants us to “commit ourselves” (our bodies) to Him for His use and for His glory. Earlier in Romans the apostle said, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your MORTAL BODY so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the MEMBERS OF YOUR BODY to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but PRESENT YOURSELVES TO GOD as those alive from the dead, and YOUR MEMBERS as instruments of righteousness to God” (Romans 6:12-13) (NASB). We know that before our conversion to Christ we used the members of our body to gratify the lusts of our flesh. Perhaps we used our MOUTH TO LIE OR GOSSIP, or our HANDS TO STEAL or HURT PEOPLE. But now that we have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19), we have the privilege and the responsibility to use those same members of our bodies “as instruments of righteousness to God.” We can use our HANDS to bless people (Ephesians 4:28). We can use our FEET to carry the gospel to lost sinners (Romans 10:14-15). And we can use our MOUTHS to proclaim the gospel (Ephesians 6:19) or to edify believers (Ephesians 4:29). Again, this is the privilege and responsibility we have as believers. In order to lay hold of this we need to constantly remind ourselves of what we see in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that YOUR BODY is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN? For you have been bought with a price: therefore GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY.”

There is one more thing that is vital before we can “present our body a living sacrifice to God.” In the first line of the hymn, it said “Take my LIFE, and let it be, Consecrated, Lord to Thee.” In Proverbs 23:26 God says, “My son, give me your HEART!” I believe the word HEART speaks of one’s “whole life” and not just his body. It would include giving our time, talents, and our all to God. Sometimes well-meaning but misguided preachers will use this verse when preaching the gospel to sinners and they will say, “If you will GIVE YOUR HEART/LIFE TO CHRIST, you will be saved.” But the truth is a sinner is “not saved by giving his life to Christ”; the sinner is saved because “Christ gave His life for us on the cross!” And once we believe that He died for us on the cross, we are God’s children and then we can “give our heart to Him!” Have you ever “given your heart/life to God?” This is a decision that must be made if we are to truly be “fully committed to God daily.” I will close by quoting a clear example of this in 2 Corinthians chapter 8 where Paul spoke of poor saints in Macedonia who were willing to give money to suffering saints in Jerusalem (verses 1-1-4). Verse 5 goes on to say, “And not only as we had hoped, but they FIRST GAVE THEMSELVES TO THE LORD, and then to us by the will of God.” This, dear fellow-believer, is the real secret of consecration to God. We must “first GIVE OURSELVES to God and if we do that, we will have no problem “presenting the members of our bodies to God” for Him to use for His honor and glory and for the blessing of others.  (DO)  (622.5)
