There is a well-known word for mocking the Bible or anything that is sacred. That word is SACRILEGE, which means “a violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred.” When one is guilty of committing sacrilege, they are being SACRILEGIOUS. So, when one makes memes or videos in order to MOCK (make fun of) Biblical passages and events, they are most certainly guilty of sacrilege. We will look at a few passages now where we will see God’s view of this act. We shall see that God hates the act of mocking His Word (the truth revealed in it), and He will surely judge them for it.

In Proverbs 14:9 (NKJV) we read, “Fools MOCK at sin, but among the upright there is favor.” We know that many who do “mock the Bible” are actually “mocking the truth that God is holy and that He will judge sin.” What they fail to see is that THEY WILL BE JUDGED! By contrast, the “upright” (those who have been made righteous by God’s grace….see Romans 3:21-26) honor God’s Word and they will “not be judged” for their sins; they receive favor (grace) from God through His beloved Son (see John 8:31-36; Romans 8:1; Ephesians 1:3-7).

In Proverbs 19:27-29 we read, “Cease listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. A disreputable witness SCORNS justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity. Judgments are prepared for SCOFFERS, and beatings for the backs of FOOLS.” Those who have “listened to the instruction of fools” (at ungodly schools of ‘learning’ and even at apostate seminaries) will end up “straying from the true knowledge of God’s Word.” They then become “scorners” and “scoffers” of the Bible, but God has prepared JUDGMENTS for these fools.

In 2nd Peter 3:3-4 we have one of the greatest examples of those who make fun of the Bible. It says, “Know this first of all, that in the last days MOCKERS will come WITH THEIR MOCKING, following after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation” (NASB).  In short, we are being told that men will, in the last days, “MOCK the truth that Jesus Christ will return to judge the world.” Dear ones, we ARE living in the last days and we are seeing the fulfillment of this passage! Foolish men, who are not content to simply reject the Bible, make fun of it (with memes, videos, articles, jokes, etc.) by defying God’s truth of sin and judgment, boldly saying that warnings of God’s impending judgment are ridiculous for God has never (and will never) intervene in world events by judging the human race. Now let us read verses 5-7, “For when they maintain this, it escaped their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which THE WORLD AT THAT TIME WAS DESTROYED, BEING FLOODED WITH WATER. But by His word THE PRESENT HEAVENS AND EARTH ARE BEING RESERVED FOR FIRE, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” These “fools” who dare to defy God’s Word and “mock it” ignore the truth that God did indeed intervene in the affairs of men and destroyed all but 8 souls in a universal flood (see Genesis chapters 6 & 7). And just as the “old world” was judged by water, the “present world” will be judged by fire.

God warns all who hate His Word and MOCK it with these words, “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For SCORNERS delight in their SCORNING, and FOOLS hate knowledge. Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, Because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I WILL MOCK when your terror comes. When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you” (Proverbs 1:22-27). If men refuse to listen to God’s Word and His invitation to turn from their sin and their mockery of His Word, they will indeed “reap what they have sown” and judgment will be their end. How solemn! I hope and pray none of my readers will experience this. If you have been “making fun of God’s Word,” I pray you will right now repent of your sin and experience God’s grace in forgiveness through faith in His beloved Son (see Acts 10:36-43) and He will indeed “pour His Spirit upon you” (see Acts 10:44-45). If you don’t heed His words of love and grace, you will surely meet Christ as your Judge and be lost forever in the lake of fire (see 2nd Thessalonians 1:7-8 and Revelation 20:11-15).  (DO)  (554.1)
