I know some angels followed Satan and were cast out of heaven. My question is: Could they repent and change their fate?
There is not one verse in all of Scripture that gives fallen angels the hope of “repenting and changing their fate.” In Matthew 25:41 we read, “Then He (Jesus) will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into EVERLASTING FIRE PREPARED FOR THE DEVIL AND HIS ANGELS’” (NKJV). This verse teaches us that Hell will be the eternal destiny of the Devil and all his angels that followed him in his rebellion against God. There is absolutely no hope for them.
This solemn truth is also taught in Hebrews 2:14-16, “Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He DOES NOT GIVE HELP TO ANGELS, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham” (NASB). This passage clearly teaches that the Son of God became a true Man in order to save MEN by dying for them on the cross in payment for their sins. He did NOT die for angels, so He did NOT come into this world to save ANGELS. That Christ only died for MEN is taught in all of Scripture. One of my favorite passages in Scripture that brings this out is 1st Timothy 2:3-6, “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, WHO DESIRES ALL MEN TO BE SAVED and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and MEN, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”
We started our answer by quoting Matthew 25:41. That verse also teaches that all who reject Christ as their Savior will suffer the same fate as the Devil and his angels. As we saw, God prepared Hell for the Devil and his angels, but if men (i.e., men, women, boys and girls) don’t avail themselves of God’s salvation by trusting in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross, they will spend the endless ages of eternity in Hell with all the fallen angels. If you are reading this and you are still unsaved, I plead with you to “repent of your sins and believe the good news of Jesus Christ.” Jesus pleaded with men to “Repent, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15). The Apostle Paul preached to men “repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21). Right now, wherever you are, you can take your place before God as a guilty, hell-deserving sinner (that is REPENTANCE). Then simply take God at His Word (see John 3:16) and “BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). (DO) (564.1)
