I was unaware that “some Bible teachers say we will sing and dance forever.” If this is true, they are mistaken, for we never read of “dancing” in heaven and even though we will be doing a lot of “singing” as we worship the Lord, we will also be engaged in other activities as well. We will list a few of the activities with some brief comments.

1) WORSHIPING: “And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne stood and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain….and the twenty-four elders FELL DOWN before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they SANG A NEW SONG, saying: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open the seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation” (Revelation 5:6, 8-9). WORSHIP will surely be the most important activity in heaven. I believe we will FALL DOWN before our Savior and SING OUR PRAISES to Him every time we see Him and the scars He received at Calvary. They will be a constant reminder that He had to take our place in DEATH and JUDGMENT in order to “redeem us to God.” Notice, nothing is said about DANCING.

2) REIGNING: “And made us KINGS and PRIESTS to our God; and we shall REIGN

on the earth” (verse 10). Besides worshiping as PRIESTS, we shall “reign over the earth as KINGS.” In Revelation 20:4 we see that we will reign “with Christ for a thousand years.” This is speaking of His Millennial Kingdom where He will be the “King of kings, and Lord of lords.” But we will be by His side and thus we too will be “reigning as KINGS.” In 1st Corinthians 6:2-3 we read, “Do you not know that the saints shall JUDGE THE WORLD?….Do you not know that we shall JUDGE ANGELS?” When Christ reigns He will also JUDGE His royal subjects and here we learn that we too shall have a part in this. Men and angels will be subject to Him and to us! Is this not amazing that the Lord Jesus will share His reign with us? “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit and we are the children of God, and if children, then HEIRS—HEIRS of God and JOINT HEIRS with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8:16-17). When Christ does take possession of this earth as His inheritance (see Psalm 2:8 and Hebrews 1:2) we will inherit the earth too.  Then He shall establish His kingdom (Matthew 25:31) and we shall reign with Him. This will continue after the Millennium into the Eternal State for in 2nd Peter 1:11 we read of “the EVERLASTING KINGDOM of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” See also Revelation 22:5.

3) LEARNING: “That in the ages to come He MIGHT SHOW the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7). God will be giving us FRESH REVELATIONS throughout the endless ages of eternity and thus we will be CONTINALLY LEARNING. Here we read that He will be continually revealing the wonders of His grace to, but we also know that He will be SHOWING US the beauties of the New Heaven and the New Earth, which will include the New Jerusalem (see Revelation 21:10-21). Perhaps He will take us on countless “field trips” throughout the vast universe to TEACH US the marvels of each creation. But even more important, we will learn more and more of His matchless GLORY as seen through His Beloved Son (see John 17:24). So, we will never get bored, for God is INFINITE and we will never come to the point where we say, “Okay, I now know all that there is to know about God and His creation.” We will forever be “students in the school of God,” happily taking in the knowledge He is pleased to teach us.

Let me end by quoting Psalm 16:11, “In Your presence is FULLNESS OF JOY; at Your right hand are PLEASURES FOREVERMORE.” This, dear fellow-believer, is what we have to look forward to! (486.3) (DO)
