Thank you, my dear friend, for this very good question! The short answer is that all people will be accountable for their actions and words before God, so yes, all things will be revealed. We read in Matthew 12:36: “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” I do believe that all men, Christian and non-Christian alike will be accountable for their works and even for every idle word, since words are a measure of the heart. However, praise God for His amazing grace, born again Christians will not be judged for sins and experience any condemnation as a result of this review, because their sins have been forgiven, paid for by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary’s cross (John 5:24; Romans 8:1; Ephesians 2:8-9).

This does not diminish our accountability for ungodly thoughts, words and actions, but the difference for Christians is that for the Christian, it is our service to the Lord which is being brought out, and it happens once we are with our Lord in the glory. I believe that the Bible reveals this time as the Judgment Seat of Christ. This is identified in Romans 14:10, and in 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 we learn more about this “judgment seat”. I say again that at this time, the service of all true Christians will be revealed, but not for the judgment of sins, because as we have said, our sins have been forgiven. Christ Jesus has settled that account 2000 years ago once and for all time at Calvary, and thus there is no thought about the salvation of the soul at the judgment seat of Christ. This is more of a review of the works of Christians, whether they be praiseworthy or not. Rewards will be given for service that stands the scrutiny of the Lord…service that blesses and edifies.  There may be loss of reward (but not loss of salvation) for that which does not bless, but the believer is yet saved.  In MacDonald’s Bible Commentary on 1 Corinthians 3:13 we read: “In a coming day, each one’s work will become clear. Day refers to the Judgment Seat of Christ when all service for the Lord will be reviewed. The process of review is likened to the action of fire. Service that has brought glory to God and blessing to man, like gold, silver, and precious stones, will not be affected by the fire. On the other hand, that which has caused trouble among the people of God or failed to edify them will be consumed…”.

Thus, I believe that the Scriptures speak of two different scenarios, one for the ungodly and one for those who are saved. Now, we read about the judgment of the ungodly at the Great White Throne as described in Revelation 20:12-15, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” This judgment occurs after the Great Tribulation, after Christ Jesus has returned to the earth to judge the nations and to set up His Millennial reign of 1000 years. At the close of this millennial period, once Satan is released from the pit, there will be a last battle (Revelation 20:7-9. After the final destruction of all those who have followed the devil, which have come to surround Jerusalem, all the ungodly dead of all generations will then be resurrected and rounded up to be judged by Christ on the Great White Throne according to their works as revealed when the books are opened. Thus, Satan and his followers (the ungodly of all generations) will be cast into the Lake of Fire at that time. I would again clarify that this final judgment is for the ungodly; the true believers on Christ Jesus will already have been taken up to glory prior to the tribulation (see Revelation 3:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; John 14:1-3).  (SF)  (639.4)
