You ask a very bold question, and I would like to give you an equally bold answer. I will seek to prove, by the Word of God, that “There is a Trinity” and in doing so, we will see that “we are NOT being told a lie.” Believers are not worshipping other gods, but the ONE TRUE GOD.

When we say that the Bible teaches there is a “holy Trinity,” we are saying that “God is ONE God who at the same time subsists in THREE Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” This is why we use the word “trinity,” for that word simply means “three-in-one.” The fact that there is ONE God and yet He is made up of more than one Person is taught in the very first chapter of our Bible. We read in Genesis 1:1 & 26, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…Then God said, ‘Let US make man in OUR image, according to OUR likeness.” The word for “God” in verse 1 is the Hebrew word ELOHIYM which is a “PLURAL word indicating two or more Persons.” Verse 26 proves that “God” is indeed a “PLURAL God” for in speaking of Himself He uses the plural pronouns “us” and “our.” I would encourage you to read Genesis 3:22 and Isaiah 6:8 where God again uses the plural pronoun “us” when speaking of Himself. Again, He is “ONE God” but He is also teaching us that He is made up of “more than one Person.”

It isn’t until we get to the New Testament that we learn that there are “THREE Persons” who make up the Godhead and they are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. One of the simplest and clearest examples of this is in Matthew 28:19 which reads, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the FATHER and of the SON and of the HOLY SPIRIT.” Jesus is giving His disciples the formula for baptism and in it He is teaching that one is publicly identifying themselves with the Triune Godhead. Notice, they were to baptize people in the “name” (which is SINGULAR) of the Godhead and yet the Godhead is made up of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Could words be any clearer than this? I think not. When I have read this verse to those who deny the truth of the Trinity, they can’t explain what this verse means. They usually end up saying, “This can’t mean that God is made up of Three Persons for that would mean God is actually ‘three gods.’” What they fail to see is that God is “Three Persons who are absolutely ONE GOD, for all three Persons are EQUAL in nature and all three Persons share the Divine attributes of Omniscience, Omnipotence and Omnipresence. Let’s consider the scriptures (from the NKJV) that teach us that They are indeed “co-equal” and “share the same attributes.”

1) Each Person is called God. Ephesians 1:2 says, “Grace to you and peace from GOD our FATHER.” In John 1:1 & 14 we read, “In the beginning was the Word…and the Word was GOD…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we behold His glory, the glory as of the ONLY BEGOTTEN (Son) OF THE FATHER, full of grace and truth.” Acts 5:3-4 states, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the HOLY SPIRIT…You have not lied to men but to GOD.”

2) Each Person is Eternal. Psalm 90;2 declares, “From everlasting to everlasting, You are GOD.” Hebrews 1:8 declares, “But to the SON He says: ‘Your throne, O GOD, is forever and ever.” Hebrews 9:14 says, “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through THE ETERNAL SPIRIT offered Himself without spot to God.”

3) Each Person is Omniscient (all-knowing). 1st John 3:20 reads, “GOD is greater than our heart, and KNOWS ALL THINGS.” The disciples of Jesus said to Him in John 16:30, “Now we are sure YOU KNOW ALL THINGS, and have no need that anyone should question You.” 1st Corinthians 2:10-11 says, “But GOD has revealed them to us through His SPIRIT. For the SPIRIT searches all things, yes, the deep things of GOD…no one KNOWS THE THINGS OF GOD EXCEPT THE SPIRIT OF GOD.”

4) Each Person is Omnipotent (all-powerful). Jeremiah 32:27 states, “Behold, I am the LORD, the GOD of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” In Hebrews 1:1-3 we read, “GOD…has in these last days spoken to us by His SON…who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and UPHOLDING ALL THINGS BY THE WORD OF HIS POWER.” Luke 1:35 reads, “The HOLY SPIRIT will come upon you, and the POWER OF THE HIGHEST will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

5) Each Person is Omnipresent (present everywhere). Jeremiah 23:23-24 says, “Am I a GOD near at hand, says the LORD, and not a GOD afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him? says the LORD; Do I not fill the heaven and earth? says the LORD.” Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 28:20, “I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, even to the end of the age.” Psalm 139:7 declares, “Where can I go from Your SPIRIT? Or where can I flee from Your presence.”  (DO)  (510.3)
