Will I go to Hell if I can’t bring others to God?
There is only one thing that will cause you to go to Hell: UNBELIEF! Scripture is very clear that one will be in Hell for refusing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Here are some scriptures that support this.
*John 8:24 says, “Therefore I (Jesus Christ) said to you that you will DIE IN YOUR SINS; for if you do NOT BELIEVE THAT I AM HE, you will die in your sins” (NKJV).
*John 3:18 & 36 read, “He who believes in Him (Jesus Christ) is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because HE HAS NOT BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD…He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and HE WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE THE SON shall not see life, but THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDES ON HIM.”
We could add other verses but these are enough to prove that it is one’s refusal to believe on Jesus Christ, the Son of God, that will cause them to “die in their sins” (die without having their sins forgiven). This rejection of Christ results in the sinner being cast into the lake of fire (see Revelation 20:15) where “the wrath of God abides on him” for all eternity.
The sinner who DOES “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” is given eternal life and he shall never perish. Here are some verses that teach us that wonderful truth.
*John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.”
*John 5:24 declares, “Truly, truly,, I (Jesus Christ) say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, HAS ETERNAL LIFE, and DOES NOT COME INTO JUDGMENT, but has passed out of death into life” (NASB).
*John 10:27-28 say, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them. And I GIVE THEM ETERNAL LIFE, AND THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH.”
Regarding “bringing others to God,” after one is saved he has privilege of proclaiming the gospel to lost sinners so they too can believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. The Lord Jesus gave believers this mission in Mark 16:15-16, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Notice, our responsibility lies in preaching the gospel, yet those who we preach to are responsible to believe. In other words, we can bring them the good news that saves, but we can’t make them believe. God alone can cause the Word we have given them to bear fruit. We see this in 1st Corinthians 3:5-6, “Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted, Apollos watered, but GOD GAVE THE INCREASE.” God has entrusted us with the gospel of His grace, but He alone can bring the Word to fruition! So, in that sense, it is God Himself that “brings others to Him,” though this passage does show that we are used of Him to plant the good seed in their hearts.
We saw that we have the PRIVILEGE of proclaiming the gospel to the lost; it is also our RESPONSIBILITY. Paul speaks of this in 1st Corinthians 9:16, “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.” Paul said “woe is me if I do not preach the gospel” because his service will be evaluated at the Judgment Seat of Christ and if he failed to preach the gospel when the opportunity was given, he will suffer the loss of a reward (see 1st Corinthians 3:9-15). But as we saw above, one will NOT lose the gift of eternal life, for eternal life is based on Christ’s work on the cross for us and not on our labors in the gospel. (282.5) (DO)
